It’s five in the morning. You’ve just finished typing up your term paper and you’re finally ready to print it out. As it’s printing, you feel cathartic. You feel powerful. You feel invincible. You’re prepared to walk into your 7AM class as a winner, holding up your finished term paper (read: trophy). But then, as you glance at a nearby mirror, you see the dark circles under your eyes, the red patches all over your face, and look at that, a newly formed zit has decided to grace your face. Sound familiar? Yes, as an Iskolar ng Bayan, we’ve all been there before. Lucky for us, God created makeup to disguise our blemishes.
First and foremost, one does not need supreme makeup skills to use makeup. As long as you have the tools and the willingness to try, you can do anything. Second, using makeup is not exclusive to girls. Girl, boy, bakla, tomboy, butiki, baboy… you name it- can use makeup. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s dive into it.
What you’ll need:
- Concealer / Color Correcting Palette
- Setting Powder
- Brushes / Beauty Blender / Your Fingers
Conceal, Don’t Feel, Don’t Let Them Know
The first thing you need to do is get your hands on some concealer. These are flesh-colored and cream based products easily bought at any drugstore. With this powerful tool, apply it on red spots or dark spots to even out the color of your face. You can use a blender, a brush, or even your fingers, to blend it all out.
If you want to take it a step further, you can opt to color correct your blemishes. I’m not kidding, you really can color correct your face. This is especially effective in hiding that dark shade of exhaustion under your eyes or that messed up red “blush” you have all over your face. Like Photoshop, apply green to conceal red spots and apply red to conceal dark spots. I usually use a light red tone to hide the bags under my eyes.
- Not Too Dark, Not Too Light, But Just Right – Goldilocks, Probably
Once you’re done concealing and/or color correcting, apply foundation generously on your face. Make sure your foundation is the right color for you! [Like Goldilocks, find a foundation color that’s just right for your skin tone.] Personally, I like to apply my foundation with the help of my trusty beauty blender. I start with my nose and dab the product all over my face.
- Ready, SET, Not Yet Go
Before you grace the world with your beautiful face, you have to let the makeup set first. With your setting powder, dab it all
over your face… make sure to dab up to your neck as well. Setting powder is important because it makes sure your makeup actually stays on and doesn’t melt or ruin your masterpiece (because makeup is an art that’s supposed to enhance your beauty, not hinder it).
- Everything Else
Up until step four, you’ve successfully hidden the “#TeamNoSleep” sign all over your face. Now that you’re done hiding your blemishes, you can go right ahead with contouring, highlighting, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick.
A little makeup can go a long way
- When in Doubt, Blend for Your Life
Blending can do anything. If you feel like you did anything wrong, blend the product to perfection.
- Prime Time Every Time
To make sure your makeup stays on the way you want it to, you can apply primer all over your face. This will help keep your pores closed.
- Highlight and Contour
To make sure your face doesn’t look too flat, you can highlight and contour your face. This simple step will accent your cheekbones and can make you look slimmer in an instant.
- The Youtube Beauty School
There’s really been an increase of beauty vloggers on Youtube and if you want to learn how to do a certain look or maybe you’d like to see a product review, Youtube will definitely be there for you.
At the end of the day, it’s up to you how you want to do your makeup. You can be simple with just a little concealer here and there, or you can go big with full coverage complete with eye makeup. Really, makeup is meant to be enjoyed and used to boost your confidence. If you look good, you feel good and if you feel like a winner, you gotta look like a winner.
So strut your way to that 7AM class. Show your classmates an all-nighter isn’t enough to bring you down!
